When you go to bed, put the following ingredients on LOW in the crock pot (I always double it):
4 c water
1/2 c milk
some salt
1 c steel cut oats
any additions (raisons, figs, cranberries, nuts, etc.)
When you wake up (or eight hours later), stir and serve. Delicious!
This is genius! I have been doing a two day process! Letting it soak for 8 hours and then boiling it for 20 and letting is stand. This is WAY better. BTW: you started this at 11:15pm? Wowzers. I can't stay up past 10:30 or I feel like I'm going to die.
ReplyDeleteWhere do you buy your steel cut oats? They are super expensive if you buy them at a regular grocery store.
ReplyDeleteUm, yeah -- that one day I did =) I usually go to bed at 10:30 p.m. and turn off the oats at 6:30 a.m. I got oats from Honeyville Farms for food storage a year ago and am "rotating" them! I can't remember how much they cost for a case, but they have lasted a long time and we eat this a lot!
