Deep quotes

What makes a quote a good quote? I think it's one that:
makes you think a new thought
gives you a good laugh
reminds you of life's beauty
gives you hope or strength
leaves you feeling a renewed sense of the sacred
rings true to the hearer
parallel structure (says my roommate)

I started keeping a list of meaningful quotes in the back of my scripture journal and occasionally reflect on them. I've been meaning to post these ever since I shared them with Lindsey and Sarah at home one morning a few weeks ago. So, here they are:

". . . .the crowd almost always seeks a silent consensus of mediocrity. However good the crowd, it expects less of us than we are truly capable of giving. There is only one light, one standard that reveals and requires the full measure of our potential and offers the power by which it can be realized. Jesus Christ is the Light and Life of the world. He alone both reveals our weaknesses and provides us with the power to change and become strong where we are weak."
~E. Cothbridge, Q70

"[the Spirit] "satisfies and fills up every longing of the human heart, and fills up every vacuum. . . . .And it is our privilege to so live that we can have this constantly flowing into our souls."
~Eliza R. Snow

"Learn how to lead, beginning with [yourself]. Stand on your own feet. Stand tall. Hold your heads high as though you [are] truly [a daughter] of God, which you are . . . Move on the good earth as though you are [a partner] of the Lord in helping to bring immortality and eternal life to mankind, which you are. Walk quietly, as in stocking feet; but walk fearlessly, in faith. Don't let the ill winds sway you. Walk as with leaders. . . . walk with hands ready to help, with hearts full of love for your fellowmen. But walk with a toughness of righteousness."
~W. Ashton

"There is beauty and clarity that comes from simplicity that we sometimes do not appreciate in our thirst for intricate solutions."
~E. Uchtdorf

"What is most important almost always involves the people around us."
~E. Monson

"Each of us has more opportunity to do good and to be good than we ever use. The opportunities lie all around us. Whatever the size of our present circle of effective influence, if we were to improve our performance even a little bit, that circle would be enlarged. There are many individuals waiting to be touched and loved if we care enough to improve in our performance."
~Pres. Kimball

"We must remember that those mortals we meet in parking lots, offices, elevators, and elsewhere are that portion of mankind God has given us to love and serve."
~Pres. Kimball

"My appeal is that you nurture your own physical and spiritual strength so that you have a deep reservoir of faith to call upon when tasks or challenges or demands of one kind or another come. Pray a little more, study a little more, shut out the noise and shut down the clamor, enjoy nature, call down personal revelation, search your soul, and search the heavens for the testimony that led our pioneer parents. Then, when you need to reach down inside and little deeper and a little farther to face life and do your work, you will be sure there is something down there to call upon."
~E. Holland

"Never let a problem to be solved become more important than a person to be loved."
~E. Monson
