Some Favorite Things: Jana

1.  Fall
I love the anticipation that comes with the fall - cooler weather, so many holidays and birthdays, beautiful nature.  Our family pretty much has some sort of special day every week or two (or less) starting with Columbus Day in October: Columbus Day, Halloween, Adrienne's Birthday, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving, Kayla's Birthday, Christmas, our Anniversary, New Years Day!

2.  Ultimate Frisbee
(Yes, that is my brother Joel in an awesome dive.)  I started playing Ultimate Frisbee after I started college, and I have been hooked ever since.  There was a time in my life when I was playing Ultimate four to five times a week.  Those days are over, but I still play on a DC League as often as I can on the weekends.  Ultimate in the Fall is even better!

3.  My Grandma Sweaters
They are so comfy and warm.  Kevin started calling them grandma sweaters, but I don't care if they look dated (they aren't).  They are a staple in the cold weather and I have three different colors!  (A friend bought them and promptly didn't like them and gave them to me - so I love them even more because they were free.)

4.  Stovetop Popcorn (I actually have a contraption like the above.)
As a rule, I make this once a week, usually on the weekend, to enjoy with a movie.  I love the simplicity of it - kernels, oil, salt, and heat.  Probably it's the salt that does it for me because I love salty things and this one is relatively healthy if you use extra virgin olive oil.

5.  Melted Cheese Sandwiches
Not grilled cheese - that's too much work.  Just slather the mayo on one or two slices, add the cheese, and microwave it until it just starts to melt.  I eat these quite often.

6.  Oversized Teeth and Overbites on Babies
Okay, so maybe I'm biased towards this particular baby, but I really do think it is just adorable to see a baby with an overbite and huge teeth.

7.  My bed (sorry no picture - too messy right now)
We bought our bed right before we got married off of Craig's list and have loved it ever since.  It is a king-sized waterbed frame with a regular mattress in it.  There is storage underneath and in the headboard and is a bit big for our small bedroom.  The quilt on it was handmade from my grandma.  With clean sheets, I just love to slip under the covers and snuggle down to sleep.

8.  Jeopardy!
You probably already know that I love Jeopardy! from the way I got way into the Hatch Jeopardy! game during the trip in September.  I watch it as much as I can, sometimes even planning meals and bedtime routines around it.  It's a good thing it's only half an hour.

9.  Boggle
I've loved this game since I was a kid.  Unfortunately, I hardly find people who want to play it with me these days.  There is a good version online, but it can be addicting so I try to not play it too much.

10.  Live Shows
This could be a Broadway musical, high school play, college dance team, music concert, whatever.  When a group/individual can perform well live, there is something magical about it.  I love to see a good live show in person (as opposed to live on TV or something).

  3. Jana, it was so fun to read about some of your favorite things. Hey, I'm so with you on fall! I think it's my favorite time of year too! I think I might be ready to take you on at boogle. I've played a LOT of games of speed scrabble with my mother and I'm getting better. That should make me pretty good at boggle. . . right? I didn't know you liked melted cheese sandwitches. We'll have to make sure it's on the menu the next time we have a reunion! Love, Gayle

  4. I love fall and ultimate and Boggle and Jeopardy, too! You are the first person I have met who also makes melted cheese sandwiches. I love them, too! That is an incredible picture of Joel, BTW! I thought it was one from the web at first. I love your sweaters, too! So warm and cozy. I love how you have such a mind to play games! I miss living near you and playing board games and snacking on popcorn. Love you and what a great post!
